Colposcopy

Procedure Description:
Method in which to evaluate an abnormal pap smear

What To Expect:
The cervix and vagina is cleansed with vinegar. The cervix, vagina, and vulva are inspected with the colposcope and small biopsies are performed if indicated. The entire visit takes no more than 1/2 hour. You will be asked to sign a consent form before the procedure.

Preprocedure:
There may be a little cramping during the procedure if a biopsy is done, therefore one to two Ibuprofen (Advil, etc.) may be taken 1/2 to 1 hour before. Also please make sure you are not menstruating the day of the procedure.

Postprocedure:
You may have some slight brown, clumpy discharge for up to 24 hours afterwards. A mini pad is all that is needed.
If a biopsy is done, then it is advised not to have sexual intercourse for 5 days afterwards in order to give the tissues time to heal.
I will inform you of the results within 7 to 10 days.

Natural Hormones

Symptoms of menopause and perimenopause can be alleviated very effectively with natural or bioidentical hormone therapy.
Dr. Enzenbacher has devoted her practice to working with women through the transition of menopause, a state that most women will be in for 1/3 to 1/2 of their lifetime. She has years of experience with hormone testing and replacement with bioidentical hormones.

Sexual Function

As we age, many women feel a change in their sexual function in terms of sexual desire, arousal and/or orgasm.
Dr. Enzenbacher belongs to the International Society for the Study of Female Sexual Health.
She takes a sexual history and addresses concerns and issues a woman may articulate.
Dr. Enzenbacher also educates her patients about 'normal' female sexual function and sexuality.
There can be a hormonal component, such as a deficiency in DHEA and or Testosterone. These levels are tested via blood work if indicated.
Dr. Enzenbacher evaluates and offers solutions for women who have compromised sexual function. This can include educational material in the form of handouts, suggestions for instructional and erotic reading, references for resources such as women's sexuality web sites, on-line shopping, therapists, and hormone/vitamin supplementation.

Alternatives to Hysterectomy

There are exciting new alternatives to hysterectomy for women who experience excessive bleeding during their menstrual cycle. This condition is called menorrhagia and often occurs in the peri-menopausal (ages 40 to 55).
It can also be due to fibroids in the uterus, or adenomyosis (endometriosis in the muscle of the uterus)
There is a procedure called endometrial ablation which can now be performed in the office. The procedure uses a freezing technique to eliminate the endometrial lining. The results are a very light menses or no menses at all. However the woman maintains her hormones, cervix and uterus! Please visit the web site at Her Option.com to learn about this exciting new technique, which I offer in my office.
